Mission: To stand on the foundation of JESUS CHRIST by training believers, leading souls to Christ and helping the needy in our community
In 1920, under the pastorship of Rev. J. C. White, Little Zion Baptist Church moved from its location in the Child’s Community to its present site in the Arthurtown section of Columbia, South Carolina. After this move, many changes took place. The name was changed to Zion Hill Baptist Church. Later, the edifice was destroyed by fire, rendering the church homeless. But, due to the generosity of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, Zion Hill was still able to conduct service through the use of their facilities. With prayer, faith, and shared resources, under the pastorship of Rev. FM Young, a new edifice was erected. Membership was decreased because some members joined other churches during the interim period.
Over the years, Zion Hill Baptist Church has had leadership that was strong, compassionate, and capable. Eleven pastors have served from 1920 to the present. Other pastors are as follows: Reverends Kennedy, Jones, JC Williams, JC Spann, BF Sumpter, CJ Whitaker, LB Holloway, Isaiah Byrd, and our present pastor, Clyde L. Bennett, Sr.
Zion Hill Baptist Church enjoys a reputation as being a church with a big heart. To all that enter we say, “Enter this church, therefore not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. Come then into its presence with joy in your hearts and thanks on your lips, offering Him your love and service. Beseech His Blessings on those who minister and worship here, and may that Blessing rest on you forevermore.”
